Earthquake Recovery Support for Informal Settlement Communities – Port Vila, Vanuatu
Supported by Rotary New Zealand World Community Service (RNZWCS Limited) in partnership with Rotary Port Vila, in consultation with Rotary Hutt City and the Vanuatu High Commission in New Zealand

In December 2024, Port Vila, Vanuatu was impacted by a significant earthquake that caused widespread damage, particularly in vulnerable informal settlements. Many families have lost essential household items and have seen their livelihoods disrupted. Informal settlements, already facing challenges in housing, sanitation, and access to stable income, were disproportionately affected. Rapid assistance is needed to support recovery and restore a sense of dignity to affected households, while also stimulating the local economy during the recovery period.
Project Goal
To assist earthquake-affected families in Port Vila’s most impacted informal settlements through the provision of targeted household recovery vouchers, enabling them to access essential goods from a local retailer Port Vila Hardware in partnership with Stanley Imports.
Project Location: Informal settlement communities in Port Vila, Vanuatu
Project Duration: 90 days from commencement or until all vouchers are redeemed.
